Safe Emergency Shelter
is available to victims experiencing any type of domestic abuse (emotional, physical, or psychological). While staying in shelter, our staff will introduce residents to a broad range of services which may help them establish safe, independent lives. Individuals may reside in the shelter for up to 30 days, and in many cases extensions are available. |
Supportive Crisis Counseling
is provided individually to victims of domestic violence. The free and confidential counseling services are designed to help victims sort through their feelings and find out about available services, including information regarding their legal rights, housing opportunities, public assistance, educational training programs and job information. |
Group Counseling
sessions are held weekly to provide victims with an opportunity to meet and talk with other victims who are living in abusive relationships and those who have left their abusers. |
Children's Services
are designed to assist children who have either witnessed domestic violence or experienced abuse first hand. Our Children's Advocate conducts individual and group counseling sessions to help young victims express their feelings, cope with their experiences and ultimately break the cycle of abuse. Safety planning for children who still must have contact with the abuser is also available. |
Victim Advocacy
is provided through our office in the Schuylkill County Courthouse. Advocates assist victims in applying for Protection from Abuse Orders and accompany victims through the civil court process. Advocates are also available to accompany victims through court proceedings relating to the criminal prosecution of domestic violence cases.

Medical Advocacy
is provided to victims of domestic violence at area hospitals. In addition, the agency maintains offices at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville and the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic as part of its Medical Advocacy Project. Schuylkill Women in Crisis is working with the medical community to improve the identification of -- and appropriate response to - - victims by medical professionals. |
Violence Prevention/Education Programs
are presented to schools, community groups, businesses and religious organizations to provide information about the dynamics of domestic violence and promote nonviolence.
