Protection From Abuse Orders

A Protection from Abuse Order (PFA) is a Civil Order
of Court signed by a Judge in the Court of Common
Pleas intended to provide emergency protection to
victims of domestic violence.  Because the process of
obtaining a PFA provides victims immediate access to
the courts, requesting a PFA Order may not be viewed
by everyone as the serious legal action that it is.
Victims may want to consult with SWIC staff in
considering whether obtaining a PFA is the best or
safest option.
